Tuesday October 24, 12:29 pm Eastern Time Press Release The Cambridge Health Alliance Joins CYBeR-CARE To Pilot Telehealthcare Program BOYNTON BEACH, Fla.--(BW HealthWire)--Oct. 24, 2000--CYBeR-CARE (Nasdaq:CYBR - news) has entered into an agreement with the Cambridge Health Alliance (the Alliance) in Massachusetts to launch a pilot program with CYBeR-CARE's Electronic HouseCall(TM) System (models 400 and 600), an Internet-based technology that monitors individuals in their homes from a remote location for medical purposes.
The collaborative effort will include a clinical study, scheduled for an initial 3-6 months with additional studies added as more applications are introduced, that is focused on significantly improving the management of the Alliance's costs of caring for the elderly as well as improving their healthcare delivery. The study will begin with the placement of ten EHC400 patient units and two EHC600 provider units in Cambridge, Massachusetts. ``Upon the successful conclusion of the initial study, it is expected that the Cambridge Health Alliance will aggressively expand the program,'' said Dr. Alan Abrams, MD, Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Medical Director of Geriatrics at the Cambridge Health Alliance.
The Alliance is an innovative network of hospitals, community health centers and community-based programs whose primary purpose is to address public health concerns and provide care to the citizens of Cambridge and Somerville, Massachusetts. In addition to the Cambridge and Somerville Hospitals, the Alliance is comprised of Neville Manor Nursing Home, the Department of Public Health for the City of Cambridge, over 20 primary care sites throughout Cambridge and Somerville, and Network Health -- a managed Medicaid health plan.
Among its many nationally recognized programs, the Cambridge Health Alliance reaches out to the elderly, helping them to remain in their homes while at the same time reducing the need for lengthy hospital visits. The Alliance maintains affiliate arrangements with the Partners HealthCare System, Inc. (including the Massachusetts General and Brigham & Women's Hospitals) and CareGroup (including the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center) provider networks, as well as the Harvard Medical School teaching hospitals.
In addition, the Alliance will become a clinical development site where new applications and monitoring devices can be tested with the approval of an Investigational Review Board. The results will be published for the benefit of both parties.
Dr. Abrams, said, ``We are very excited about being involved with CYBeR-CARE and the Electronic HouseCall(TM) System. In 1990, I wrote an editorial about applying technology in monitoring medical applications that would benefit the elderly and greatly enhance their care. Now that dream has become a reality. After first seeing the Electronic HouseCall(TM) System, our entire team of providers was buzzing with enthusiasm thinking of all the potential benefits and applications.''
Michael Lemnitzer, Vice President of CyberCare Technologies said, ``We anticipate this to be a long-term partnership and are confident that the Cambridge Health Alliance will realize significant benefits of our product. This could become the new model for applying technology to deliver patient care throughout the world.''
