UF - What on earth would cause such a negative reaction from that excellent report?

This sounds pretty unbelievable but others around may confirm my understanding:-

In the CC NT say growth fro 2000 is 40%. Grwoth for 2001 for earnigns and revenues will be between 30% and 35%. This is taken as indicative of a reduction in growth rates for the whole opitcal sector and almost immediately SDLI, JDSU, CIEN drop 10% from the close.

OK so far? Well here is the rub.....NT announced that growth for 2001 would be 30% to 35% at the July earnings announecment !!!! At the same time they also announced that grwoth for 2000 would be 30% ( or threabouts I recall from an NT post) butit turned out today to be 40%.

So ....extrapolating NT seem to me to have given a conservative estimate of next years growth ( quite right and very responsible in this climate) but it has been totaly but totally wrongly interprested as the end of the growth in the FO sector and for the expected slowdown of CAPEX in the telecom sector.

If all that weren't enough QCOM got hit a little as well A/H because it is "Wireless" !!!!

Best regards,

L
