If you are a Christian, or a Buddhist, or a member of a few other churches less well known (Sufi, for one) or a subscriber to certain beliefs like Stoicism, you don't believe that God wants you to slaughter man, woman and child.

But isn't a true Christian supposed to believe in the literal truth of the bible? And doesn't the bible cite numerous instances where God and his followers slaughtered with reckless abandon?
