Re: women's shelters: The notion that churches and organizations like the Salvation Army should pick up more of the slack is one of those arguments that sounds good on paper.

GWB on a few occasions has basically said that government can't be everything to everybody, and that some of these extend-a-helping-hand services should be provided by churches, etc.

However, with church membership steadily declining in this country, is this a valid argument? I think not.
