After Gore gets elected and the NEA and AFL-CIO set up branch offices in White House, we'll start to tackle that problem.

By the way, I ran across an interesting statistic tonight. In the 1994 elections, voter turnout by union families dropped sharply, amounting to only about 14 percent of the voting population. The result was Newt's triumph ... both houses of Congress seized by extreme-right zealots with a pro-corporate, anti-worker agenda.

In 1996 and '98, however, union voter participation jumped to 23 percent, and in those elections, Newt's House majority shrank from 22 seats to 5 seats.

I think we'll see an even stronger union showing this election. All signs point to that.

When union members are motivated to get out and vote, labor can have a disproportionately large influence on the elections.
