SSB STILL VERY BULLISH by: RELLEK 10/25/00 2:21 am Msg: 24076 of 24080 NT Issues Should Have Minimal Impact On Photonics Companies October 24, 2000 SUMMARY * The 3Q hiccup in NT's optical systems sales is psychologically a big blow likely to pressure the optical components sector across the board near-term * We believe it is important to focus rationally on the events, and for the components companies the NT report is operationally a non-issue * NT maintains the growth in optical systems deployments should remain at a 20% sequential rate going forward and this is spot on with prior expectations * A slight contraction in optical component lead times likely occurred in 3Q, but as NT's sales return to more normal levels, we expect optical components supplies to remain tight * Moreover, both GLW and SDLI exhibiting strong 3Q optical components revenues with no hints of NT-induced problems. As a result, we think the robust outlook for the components companies remains unchanged.
