Corning Announces Research Agreement with the Whitehead Institute
Joint Initiative Extends Corning's Research & Development Efforts to Creating Advanced Research Tools for the Life Science Industry

siliconinvestor.com

CORNING, N.Y., Oct 25, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW chart, msgs) announced today that it has signed a comprehensive research agreement with the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, a non-profit, independent basic research and teaching institution known for advances in genomics and molecular medicine. The agreement further establishes Corning's leadership in the life sciences arena, building on the company's entry last month into the fast-growing market of DNA microarrays used in genomic research.

Corning's agreement with the Whitehead Institute will extend the strong interdisciplinary approach valued by both organizations. The agreement will align Corning's expertise in material sciences and manufacturing processes with the Whitehead Institute's world-class biomedical research capabilities to facilitate the development of new technologies and state-of-the-art tools for life science research. The first products to result from the four-year collaboration are likely to be products that enable gene expression analysis. <snip>
