Actually I asked my physician about Zicam recently. He looked at the bottle and said there's nothing in there that can hurt you. If it helps, then use it. He said that clinical studies demonstrated that zinc had some benefit against the common cold. I told him about the article in ENT Journal and he said he would read it. Meanwhile, he said that his wife had a cold and that he was going to buy some and try it.
