I'll apologize for saying this up front, but if nationhood is defined as the values and type of character that people have, I think there is no significant difference between Canadians and people in the upper midwest of the US. The Canadians I have known like to argue that they are more tolerant of differences and more liberal and I would agree that this is the case compared to most of the US, but here in Wisconsin and in Minnesota no one goes without health care and everyone receives access to a quality education.
Jeff,
Just last week, I posted to Scott that the people in some of the border states like MN, WI, ND, MI, WA, MT etc. seem very much like Canadians. The people seem more straight forward and friendlier.
So how about finally joining the US? We'll cut your timber and overfish your lakes, but you will be part of the greatest county in the world.
I have another alternative; why don't we, in the border states, join Canada. Greatness, IMO, is way overrated. ;~))
BTW I am originally from the Twin Cities.
