Neocon--Yeah, the budget (as it was amended, in its final form) was subject to the direst of predictions from the Republicans. I don't write that because all I believe that all truth, beauty and justice resides among the Democrats, there's plenty o' hyperbole on my side, too, but it really was a fact.

And, of course, you're right--it's impossible to know what would have happened had the Republicans not captured the Hill. I'd argue that it might well be better had the Dems stayed in control, but who the hell knows...
