Is Provo listening?

We don't know how the survey was conducted. A scientific survey would select a random sample of x type of person and then define the x type. I didn't see that so I would want to see this survey repeated on a scientific basis by Novell.

But I have the feeling that what was found out in this survey --- that Novell's "financial difficulties" are having an impact on Novell's customer's decisions about what products and services to purchase and from whom --- may have been somewhat pre-empted by Novell's advertising campaign. That shows some forward thinking at Novell marketing.

This needs to be a "bottoming" quarter. One in which we see revenues picking up in e-directory land. There need to be better prospects for the next fiscal year. We have to be over the hump of declining channel box sales with direct recurring license sales taking up the slack.

The last conference call emphasized leveraging Novell's installed base with a one net directory services message. It also highlighted a number of wins in terms of directory sales. The second message coming through in that survey is that more than half of all of the respondents are sticking with Novell as their NOS. Leveraging that installed base with compelling products and services is the revenue message going forward.
