WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Tuesday said it had not given up its support for a strong dollar and stressed that economic fundamentals rather than official interventions will determine currency values in the long run.

Speaking ahead of a meeting of top finance officials from the Group of 20 (G20) industrial and emerging market nations in Montreal, U.S. Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers insisted that a strong greenback was in the U.S. interest.

``I stated the United States' policy that a strong dollar is in our interest many times, and I don't have anything to add,'' he told a news briefing just before his departure to Canada.
