The market is a real sanctified arena where everything is above board and the houses would do nothing to take our little shares away from us, now would they?

You mean to tell me that an efficient market would not target sectors and bring them down one by one as if in cue? An efficient market wouldn't come down for seven straight weeks, have an explosive rally of a couple of days' duration, and follow up with huge losses? Wouldn't punish a stock by 27% when it misses revs by 2.7%?

Are you thinking that perhaps the "houses" would profit from exterminating the individual do-it-yourself investor, and convince them that they need a commissioned pro to handle their investments?

Except when your own house burns, there's no place to hide...
