Shenzhen IT firm's system passes MII test for CDMA base station system

(25 October 2000) Using strict technical standards, China has completed the first comprehensive test on code division multiple access (CDMA) base-station systems.

ZXC10-BSS CDMA base station system, independently developed by Shenzhen-based ZTE Corp., has passed the networking test without incident, according to CCIDnet.com on Oct. 19.

ZTE’s system will become the first to receive the networking license from the Ministry of Information Industry (MII).

The ZXC10-BSS CDMA base station system also passed the model verification test, which is organized by the national radio regulation committee.

CDMA base stations are the core components of the CDMA mobile communications systems and account for more than 80 percent of total investments in CDMA networks. ZXC10-BSS CDMA base stations include 800 MHz and 1.9 GHz cellular mobile base station systems.

In May 1999, Zhongxing released its CDMA mobile switching system and soon received the networking license from MII. The article reported that the system was successfully used with the CDMA base stations from Ericsson, Nortel, and LG and put into commercial operation.

During the Shanghai International Telecommunications Show in June 2000, ZTE introduced its first complete Chinese CDMA mobile communications system for commercial use. It is based on the IS-95A/B standard and included CDMA switching, base stations and handsets.

According to the story, the system can be smoothly transformed from a first-generation to a third-generation mobile communications system through software upgrading.
