Little mention of deflation in the mainsteam press. If you do a search on NEXIS you see that incidence of the word 'deflation' peaked in late 1998, and 2000 YTD incidence is still under 1997 YTD levels. In 1998, the Inuts were referred to as a 'deflationary proxy'- they were supposedly the prime movers as well as the primary beneficiaries of deflation. And now we see that the Frankenstein's monster has destroyed the lab in which it was created... but take a look at a few members of the true 'deflationary proxy'. The inflation/deflation inflection point was in March:
