So you say that the Sabbath law is pointless?

I think God made these people to take a break, the same reason that athlete trainers make their athletes take periodic breaks. People regenerate physically and mentally during rest.

Note that God doesn't kill every person who works on the Sabbath, just makes an example out of one of them.

The increase in rest, leading to an increase in the quality of peoples lives, cannot be measured. I remember one magazine suggesting a 20% increase in the productivity in Americans lives after they get rid of their 17-hour sleep debt. If I was forced to value a life then I would say a 10% gain in the quality and productivity in 100 lives is worth sacrificing one life. In this story the people weren't sure either which is why they asked God.

Does it seem odd to you that so many posts on this board try to decide the weight of a life and its qualities?

For example, another response I got asked if God should kill someone if they make fun of another person. I know that the joy and peace in many of lives, probably millions, have been destroyed because of people making fun of them. So the question could also be: Should we sacrifice quantity, as in years of someones life for quality, as in the joy and peace in a life?

God can limit the number of lifelines that people get. Maybe this was the thousandth time that this person made of of someone. Or maybe this person just couldn't use his phone-a-friend lifeline because he had no friends to phone from making fun of so many people.

If you are trying to disprove the Bible, then you are taking the wrong course. Instead of evaluating his decisions, look at the facts. Are all the cities located where they say they are? Is the geography in the Bible correct? Do any of the prophecies prove false?

I would much rather see one factual error as evidence than 100 so called bad Biblical decisions.
