The main problem with Betamax, if I remember this correctly, is that the content wasn't there. More and more titles were coming out on VHS, and very few for Betamax. When comparing wireless technologies (or communication protocols in general), it's not really the content that's important. It's the speed and reliability. I really don't think that a comparison to Betamax vs. VHS is valid.
