That sounds pretty accurate, although I think Bush has an Electoral College lead right now.
One of the cable TV networks last night did a couple of scenarios in which (1) Gore wins 270-268; (2) Each candidate attains 269 electoral votes and the race is thrown to Congress. Interestingly enough, new House votes on president, new Senate on vice president. So we could theoretically have Gore as president and Cheney as vice president.
The No. 1 key will be total vote. If lots of people vote, that helps Gore, because it means the Dems will have gotten out the vote in the urban areas and among union members.
Each candidate still faces a major challenge. Gore's challenge is to win in some of the following states: Missouri, Minnesota, Tennessee, Arkansas, West Virginia, Oregon, Washington.
Bush's challenge is to win either Michigan or Pennsylvania, which may be tough to do because both states have large urban areas and a large number of union voters.
Should be a most interesting election night, especially if it comes down to the Pacific states (Oregon and Washington) to decide the outcome. Agree? |
