Greenspan caused the bubble to break. Alleviate tight labor markets? I will bet you that the unemployment rate doesn't change but a hair as we move into this "little recession". All that is going to happen is that labor osts will continue to rise because they haven't risen much in the past few years, demand will go down for products, and producers will increase prices to keep up corporate profits. That's a hell of a project to work towards. You can't change the demographics of the county by putting it into recession. The fact is that there are only so many people to work and raising interest rates won't cause that number to decrease or employers to lay-off employees (because productivity will start to slow down the rate of its growth).

Just my opinion but I think Greenspan blew it and we will pay for it in 2001.
