If they can't match the high end, they will be unable to do that. If they're fastest chip is a 1.3 and intel has a 1.7

AMD said that they will have 1.5 GHz in Q1, some roadmaps point to 1.7 GHz P4 in Q1. AMD didn't say anything about the timeframe beyond Q1. There were hints about Hammer starting at 2 GHz. We may hear something from the analyst conference in November.

But it will be a while until Intel moves to Willy core. As long as Intel has a majority of their chips on Piii core, there is not much to worry about. The only concern would be if Intel is way ahead of schedule on their .13u process and AMD is behind.
