Badgers have no fear genes! Ferrets are the same way. I had a ferret in college and they just didn't understand the concept of backing down from a fight. They're only about 3 lbs, but it is just a perfected killer. They have been known to attack and kill fox. They can run using their back legs, while their fronts are inverted with claws and jaws pointing up so that they can get to their preys necks. I'd have big dogs make the mistake (once) of sniffing at him, and he'd just bite on to the dogs nose and not let go no matter how hard the dog shook him. You'd have to pry him off the dog. Cats seemed to know better, and as soon as the ferret would start to approach them, the cats would take off for safer turf. But ferrets are very playful too. They are close relatives of minks, skunks and weasels.
