Andy - Re: '~Is Tualitin to be for notebooks only, or also desktops?"

Both - although laptops may be the first to receive this chip.

Re: "~Will the development for 300 mm wafers be done at the new Chandler fab, or is there a special development fab for 300mm?"

No - development is being done in Oregon - the new Chandler fab should be brought up as an 8 inch fab and converted over to 200 mm at a later time.

Re: "~I've read that McKinley has taped out. Can you confirm?"

No - I can't confirm this now. Ask me again in a month.

Re: "Do you think Nov. 20 will be "the" date for P4? How would you rate the odds for a clean launch?"

Nov. 20'th is PROBABLY a good date.

As for a CLEAN launch, - doubtful.

First, the media and AMD cheerleader sites and the AMDroids will be all over the Pentium 4 for certain speed benchmarks that it performs only marginally better than a 1 GHz Pentium ///. The functions that it performs MUCH FASTER than a Pentium or an AthWiper will be largely dismissed and ignored.

The EXACT same situation existed when Intel launched a 60/66 MHz Pentium when 66 MHz - indeed 100 MHz ! - 80486's were available - and the original Pentium also burned power as well.

So, expect a lot of flack from reviewers - the Nathan Brookdorks, Mike Feibust, Tom UberSchmuckerMeister, Drew Peckerhead, etc.

As for "technical glitches" - hey - Intel has a good record of launching EVERY COU with some kind of glitch - for the past 6 or 7 years - why should this time be different?
