Sean, a few more positive thoughts for Amati:

1. With GIANT partners like Motorola and NEC, little Amati will get worldwide exposure for its current/future product line. Yes, they now have a "real" product readily available!

2. Infrastructure: When do you think Europe is going to rip up
their nice cobble-stone streets and historic sections (just about everything) to lay cable? What do think they will prefer as a non-invasive bandwidth solution? Oh yeah, don't even think about antenna's, dishes, etc. unless they are invisible.

3. Then, of course, there is the Pacific Rim--the Tigers. This is where VDSL/NEC will come in. These countries are generally small and densely populated. The loop is therefore much shorter. I think it was a Japanese Telco? who aggressively tried to bring fibre-to-the-curb and had to discontinue because the cost, in reality, ended up being much more than was anticipated on paper. This wouldn make for a killer application of VDSL. Hell, as long as the customer has a phone jack and a ADSL/VDSL type modem -- their ready to surf at mach speeds compared to a 28.8.

4. Is GTE a GLOBAL telecommunications company? Another rhetorical question ;.)

As always, IMHO.
