Yes, there were something like 100 Congressmen involved in taking 'contributions' from the S&Ls. Don't have the exact numbers, but it was on the order of $ 250-500 B. The last Bush budget had $ 75 B in deficit spending due to the S&L payoff. It's hardly fiscally conservative to back the current regime that ups spending by $ 600 B per year after 8 years. That's around 50 percent higher than Bush's last budget, well above the economic growth. They could've at least tried to cut spending somewhere.
