" Ther Pentium 4 was designed with high GHz as its major objective. Integer performance was not optimized - except as to NOT INTERFERE with clocking at high speeds. The Pentium 4 will just get warmed up when the AthWiper starts gasping for breath. So hold on - AMD and Intel are in for a wild ride !! Re: "why is there an Intel design team in Austin working on a new 32 bit core as we speak? I thought this core was supposed to last for 5 years? " Maybe they will take 5 years to get the "new core" architected, designed, verified and into production - I'm sure the target process will be in the 0.10 micron range. Paul
