SPSEIFERT,

i have personally experienced many instances of excessive browser cache slowing things way down. as soon as i go in and dump the cache, everything begins to load quickly again. i'm talking about netscape now, as i don't use ie enough to notice. if you are using netscape, perhaps there are some tweaks we can try on disk and memory cache.

you say "I have done SCANDISK and went thru defrag"... but you and i probably have different ideas about defrag. i subscribe to the theory that anything above 5% fragmentation will lead to system degradation, and thus is unacceptable. i also believe that symantec products handle such tasks as defragging and disk scanning and optimization far better than the generic windows tools.

my few experiences with windows defragging have been painful, in that they seemed to take forever. on the contrary, norton (symantec) tools whip right through the process in no time.

only you know how long ago it was that you defragged the drive, and how frequently you perform the task. i like to tell folks that, imo, installing norton software on their computers will seriously enhance their computing experience.

otoh, as other posters have just commented to you, your isp may be at the bottom of all this. but you can't go wrong by adhering to the system maintenance tasks i've outlined above.

:)
