sh, i share your sorrow for the people of iraq. if we could get them relief w/o improving saddam's ability to destroy then i'm all for it. the people of iraq are probably saddam's greatest victims.

if saddam had any allies that he respected and had a decent relationship with the u.s. then i'd be talking to them trying to negotiate a deal.

i surely don't feel good about people - who could have easily been either you or i in the birth lottery - dying.

you know, i probably could support bombing some military targets and dropping food and medicine on the common folk. actually, i could probably support just dropping some food and medicine on the common folk, too. we would have to take measures to prevent saddam from using the supplies for military advantage.

no doubt we could think something out along these lines if it was a priority. maybe we couldn't help everyone, but we could help some people. i guess it boils down to the fact we don't care enough to do anything - which was probably the point you were trying to make in the beginning, huh?

i do think there are real issues w/ letting saddam use commerce to increase his ability to destroy, though. man, it is a shame that concentrated evil can impact so many people. people in this country, myself included, take a lot for granted.
