I have a buddy working for Cisco and he told me something really surprised yesterday.

NTT is doing Mobile IP with csco right now. They are doing all those PDSN, HA FA stuff.

It's been written that the rollout will be in accordance with UMTS specifications. I took that to mean that it'll be based on a GSM-MAP core. The last I heard, DoCoMo (not to mention Japan Telecom and a half-dozen others) was testing mobile IP, but I didn't read anything suggesting that they'll be using an all-IP core in the beginning. In fact, what I've read states that they, along with most other carriers doing 3G rollouts, will initially be using ATM for data, due to the greater QoS-related flexibility it offers.
