Hate to drag in Warren Buffet, but if you believe his notion that you as a shareholder want to act like a fractional owner of a business (which of course is what one is), then there's little doubt which makes the more attractive holding. But shares are speculative vehicles too, especially lately, so as someone pointed out before shareholders and analysts start trying to figure out what everyone else is thinking. The best investment isn't the one generating the best returns on company capital, but the one everyone chooses to speculate on at the moment, generating the best returns on their capital. I'd rather know what I own and ask the questions an owner asks.

Back to reading "The Crash of '29" by Galbraith.

Thanks Brian for all the work you do on all the semi equip threads. I read them all, but don't post since I know nothing of the business, except that these are great stocks to buy "when there's blood in the street"! (Like now?)
