I have just read an excerpt from a Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting from, I believe, Q1 of 99 where Buffet goes into some depth about the rationale behind his silver purchase. The impression I get is that I doubt very much if he has sold any of his silver; and from this shareholders meeting transcript and from other things I have heard Buffet relate about the derivatives market, I can't really see him leasing any either.

Buffet goes into a brief history of the silver market back into the 19th century. He says that the last time he bought silver was in 1969, and that this is another great buying opportunity. From what I gathered Buffet held his silver well into the mid-late 70's back then, and hasn't bought any until he did in 98(?). My impression was that Buffet was kind of a "silver bug"....
