“An Architectural Model for Shared Storage”
A Roundtable will be held for 2 hours on Wednesday, November 1st from 7:00pm-9:00pm EST. Here are the details:

The SNIA Technical Council has been working on an architectural model for shared storage. This multi-layer model identifies the common functional layers and services that are found in various storage architectures.

Designed to be transport and protocol independent, the model allows common storage architectures such as SAN block services and NAS appliances to be presented graphically using a common taxonomy. The model is intended to allow system architects to create "reference comparisons" between the common storage architectures and solutions, and provides a context for new models as they emerge.

Users of the model will find value in comparing differing architectures and services, detecting interoperability exposure, and selecting models that are most appropriate for specific problem sets or applications.

The Architectural Model for Shared Storage is a work in progress. The Technical Council believes the model will be a valuable tool for understanding storage architectures, much as the OSI "7-layer model" became a standard of reference in the LAN world. Wednesday's roundtable will give you a chance to meet the SNIA Technical Council, see the work to date on the model, provide feedback, and ask questions.
