ASUS ® Introduces First DDR Motherboard - ASUS ® A7M266
Taipei, Taiwan, October 30, 2000 - World leading motherboard manufacturer, ASUS ® , introduces its first DDR SDRAM motherboard, the ASUS ® A7M266. The ASUS ® A7M266 unleashes the true power of Socket A AMD Athlon/Duron processors taking advantage of the high memory bandwidth provided by 266 MHz bus speeds and PC1600/PC2100 DDR SDRAM. The ATX motherboard supports AMD Socket A processors beyond 1.1GHz and is perfect for high performance desktop systems, workstations and servers. The ASUS ® A7M266 chipset consists of the AMD 761 North Bridge and VIA VT82C686B South Bridge, and is packed full of the most advanced high-performance features.

"ASUS ® is extremely proud to uphold our technology leading position by introducing AMD DDR technology into the mainstream market," says Jonathan Tsang, VP of ASUS Sales and Marketing. "The ASUS ® A7M266 and DDR SDRAM represents an evolutionary step for high-performance at a minimum price premium".

The ASUS ® A7M266 takes the AMD Athlon/Duron processors to new levels of performance with DDR SDRAM support. Supporting up to 2 GB of DDR SDRAM, the ASUS ® A7M266 enables higher bus speeds, bandwidth and system performance. A 3COM ® 10/100Mbps Ethernet controller is integrated on to the motherboard to allow high quality LAN capabilities while optional 6-channel hardware audio is provided via an additional C-Media ® chip. In addition, the ASUS ® A7M266 supports the most current technology standards by including an AGP Pro slot for AGP Pro, AGP4X, AGP2X cards and a backwards compatible ATA-100 interface for ATA-33, ATA-66, and ATA-100 hard drive devices.

With the A7M266, ASUS ® continues to lead the industry with innovative motherboard designs. ASUS ® ’ A7M266 offers overclocking bus speeds of up to 360MHz (180 x 2) which can be effortlessly achieved either through Jumperfree™ Mode or manually with dip switches. Expandability features include 5 PCI slots, 4 USB ports, an AMR slot, support of up to 2GB of DDR SDRAM and more. Other features such as wake on LAN, wake on ring, hardware monitoring ASUS ® iPanel support, and an excellent software utility bundle combine to make this one of the most feature packed motherboards on the market.

The ASUS ® A7M266 will be shipping in quantity in Q4 2000. For more details or visit asus.com.

Sounds great. Looks like a perfect successor to my old Asus Slot A boards...
