Good post. That is why I lean toward personal beliefs. I think of organized religion as a meme whose interests are not my interests. The religion wants to promote itself despite the harm it causes and the peoples lives it wastes. Kind of like a chain letter with vague threats of consequence if you don't carry the meme. At least with a personal belief, it could be a meme but not likely because replication is not an important element of my philosophy. My meme, if that is what it is, is a class of memes that regenerate in every cycle of human that uniquely carries it and is still considerate of the life and value of carrier of that meme.
