PSX II ramp. To get a feel for the dynamics of the PSX II ramp, it's worth listening to LSI Logic's (LSI) Q3 conference call which will be available for replay until Oct. 31 at streetfusion.com. LSI makes important components that go into PSX II. LSI sees the delay in shipping which Sony recently announced as a very minor blip. Sony apparently intends to ship 1.4 million units/month in 2001. For Sony's fiscal year ending March 2001, they are aiming ship a total of 10 million units, which would make it the most successful launch ever.

Given the strong launch of PSX II, one can see why ERTS is reluctant to commit to any of the other new platforms at the moment. Sega is dropping out of the platform business. The question is who will replace Sega as the also ran: Nintendo or Microsoft? At the moment it's too early, way too early, to know.
