The Audi "unintended acceleration" fiasco that almost drove Audi out of the USA was a total scam too. People were putting their foot on the gas, not the brake.

Right on, Mav. That bit really pissed me off. No car ever sold in any numbers can completely overpower full brakes with its engine.

The kicker was a followup study showing that complainants of unintended acceleration in Audis (and later, Nissan Maximas, I think it was) tended to be people of small stature who are members of the socioeconomic class least likely to admit error (the upper middle). In other wordds, he or she drove backwards through the garage, but couldn't admit it to the spouse!!!

Really kicked Audi in the teeth, what a shame, they make good cars.

Didn't Mercedes tell people to go ahead and sue them on similar complaints? Didn't the shiny-suited lawyers then have to quit targeting Mercedes?
