Paul Re..The ITanium is a brand new IA-64 architecture <<< That's a good one Paul. They started to design Itanic in 1993 or 1994. What is the life of a CPU nowadays from start to finish; 6 - 7 yrs. Itanic has already lived it's normal lifespan on the drawing board. Saying Itanic is new is like me telling you my grandmother is young. They are both in the same stage of their life. - and it apparently has a 1 1/2 to 2 year head start on the SludgeHumper - Don't you really mean to say Itanic had a five yr head start which is now; seeing as Hammer is going to tape out this yr.; down to a 11 -13 month lead. If Itanic gets any quicker, Itanic will beat my grandmother to the grave; as Itanic barely has a pulse now. As for the Pentium 4 - let's just wait for the launch - then we will see what product is slow. If you look at my sentence, you will see I only mentioned the Itanic and P4. so I must assume you are trying to say the P4 will be slower than the Itanic. I doubt it as the Itanic on its best day only runs at 800 mhz; but then again, who am I to doubt you.
