Hi TP-- As I was indicating base on SBC Comm, the deployment
of xDSL and IP/ATM switch-routers is at record level and will
accelerate-Pronto.
Also many big carrier are substituting they they CS with
packet base technology.
Carriers worldwide want to
cap their investment in Class 4 narrowband circuit switches as quickly as they can. Packet based networks (ATM+SS7)
for incumbent and alternate carriers can deliver and are delivering now (NT,ALA) at less than one-half the cost and one-tenth the footprint of conventional circuit
switches.
Of course overall capex will go down, but packet technology will get boost at expence of circuit
switches.
This is specially ture in US. Europe and the rest of the world for obvious reason will see decent sales of circuit switches over the next 12-18 .
On access side, LMDS in Europe and Asia is accelerating.
