Yes, anything that not only anchors, but *anchors immediately* CDMA is invaluable to Q*. The INTC/Chinese JV of LinkAir (is this not so, is this not a combined effort by INTC to capture Chinese market by working with the Chinese, but they are 3 yrs behind the market?) will supposedly enable the convergence of present GSM networks into 3G where necessary. Correct me please.

Regarding the Chinese determination to fulfill their own purchasing needs for technology, I can attest to my study of their actions, not their words. For the past number of years I have watched the Chinese pull ahead in many areas of hi-tech. When I began studying the Chinese/QCOM story, I was *simply certain* that Q* would play the trump card, allowing the Chinese to develop their own indigenous sources for feeding the needs of their wireless buildout of CDMA. This would be the transfer of technology which, as I saw it, GSM Gang had always denied the Chinese. I derive nothing from this board to come to this view, but much on this board has substantiated this view. I view the Chinese as less hobbled than the S.Americans; in S.America is a closed market system based upon feeding the Colonialists in Europe, or their interests. As well, a single religion dominates the regions of S.America. The closed market mentality feeds, thrives, upon close cultural dogma. China has multiple ethnicities, and multiple religions. Japan has a single religion, pretty much single ethnicity. The correlation between closed markets can be drawn partly from this lack of diversity. China: maybe we are seeing the actual formation of a *single China*, i.e. a *single* interest: the Chinese progress, not the individual progress of the very powerful. Perhaps now the very powerful are adequately in command that the next step is to develop the country rather than their own empires. What I see, regardless of the reasons, is a unified thrust from the Chinese, and it is in this unified thrust that the world powers are concerned. As long as China was kept divided, it was conquered. Now, with CDMA as a weapon, the Free Market Forces are establishing a base of operations within Chinese economy.
There is one very telling incident here:
The delay of the 3G protocol statement which would *in writing* guarantee LAS-CDMA a place amongst the World Powers in technology has some profound effects. The fact that China is now coming out of its protected barriers to compete internationally, it also means Chinese interests are subject to the same push-pull of Free Market Forces (dragging feet by Lucent in this case, who next?) which causes an old, old saying by Henry Kissinger to come to mind, one that everyone will laugh at when considering the recent rash of Chinese Bargaining and broken agreements:
"Trust Is the Coin of This Realm". Without Q* trusting its own technology and installed base, and without China trusting its alliances with Q*, they cannot get beyond this present road bump to establishing LAS-CDMA as the de-facto conversion to 3G for the Chinese GSM system. Now, who do you think this affects, Q* or the wCDMA camp? OK, we now have a very accurate assessment of the situation....China must, MUST now trust Q* and the Free Market Forces, because they have thrown their hats into the ring for this development of technology. To my way of thinking, the more the Closed Market Forces (GSM Gang) try to stall, delay or derail this CDMA gorilla from going forward, the more the Chinese will Know Who They Can Trust. I would trust IJ with anything (except my laptop {:^)>) because he has nothing to gain by being deceitful. Some people think winning in business requires dishonesty....I am not one of them. Being shrewd is not dishonest. CDMA in China will be strengthened and the Colonialists will be weakened by every trick they pull from here on out. I just hope the GPRS equipment China Telecom installed makes them awaken to the corruption they are feeding.

BTW, I do not see any mention about this on-line but I saw yesterday in San Francisco Tribune an article which said EU had cleared final hurdles to WTO for China, China must grant by end of November (7) more insurance companies permits to operate in China.............apologies if this is already known. Correct if wrong.
