The fact is that, prior to Q3, 2001, Intel can not ramp P4 to the point that it becomes a threat to AMD's high end without causing a processor shortage from which AMD will benefit. AMD has until well past the launch of P4 (assuming Intel doesn't delay its launch until Q2 2001) to decide how to deal with it.

Dale,

You are probably right that Intel can't ramp the P4 to threat status before Q3, 2001.....nonetheless I still have trouble with your delayed reaction view.

The original point that I was making to T.C. Doug was that I expect that AMD has been planning for the advent of the P4 for some time now....that, in fact, he is not the only one concerned with the impact of the P4 on the marketplace....and that planning ahead of time is an example of good corporate strategy.

If like you say, we shouldn't expect the P4 in good volume until Q3, 2001 or beyond; then, in my opinion, AMD should have started planning its counter offensive a year ago. If they didn't, then I will sell my AMD shares.
