Nato is an important fixture in the balance of power in Europe. I believe it is very much against our national interest to destabilize Nato. If we do this, and horrible consequences result- we aren't going to be able to clean up the mess easily.

At this time in history, when Russia remains so unstable, it seems incredibly foolish to do anything that would tip the existing power structure in Europe. It seems, in fact, penny wise and pound foolish.
