Yes, but we're forgetting about the white-box Intel market. My point was that there are plenty of Intel servers powering the web that don't have ECC main memory, with more being sold right now today. Most of them are probably not being sold into Sun's main customer base. But some probably are.

Remember the Pentium FDIV fiasco where Intel's first answer was "it's no big deal", which was in fact the truth in all ways except as relate to mob psychology (or "PR"). The market told them "wrong answer" and they retracted it, offering to replace processors, which almost nobody took them up on.

Sun didn't make that mistake. They acknowledged the problem and fixed it. The Intel world is rife with more serious variants of the same problem, and it doesn't seem to be news.

This is a slow-news-day issue (if we give Forbes the benefit of the doubt with respect to bias).
