I wanted to add to this idea. It seems that if there was an intelligence, it would be reluctant to intervene unless there was a widespread pattern that needed to be adjusted. I suspect that if there was a Universal intelligence that it would be of this type. A gentle feedback mechanism. No big hammer blow on the flywheel, but a tap here and a tap there. Usually. Then you have the asteroid impacts. Was this all part of a plan, or just a periodic checking of our pot to see if it needed a stir?!!! Yeah, it is easier to consider there is nothing. But it sure doesn't feel like nothing to me. Yet, it is a cold, cruel universe out there. Maybe I'm just whistling in the dark.
