My guess is that if you are covering GE and Jack Welch "suspects" that you have an agenda against GE, an ego problem wrt GE, or certain necessities of intellect that keeps you from viewing GE in a far different perspective from GE management - that you would have to be very careful if you want to keep your job and stay in the industry. Did you see Jack Welch ask Johnny Bench what he would have done if Roger Clemens did to him (Bench) what Clemens did to Mike Piazza? Jack's eyes light up and nodding gleefully when Bench said something about cleat marks on Clemens neck. My guess is that Jack views sports and business as metaphors for life and that you have to play very aggressively and play to win. Making unsubstantiated negative comments about his company that would cause his company to lose value in the market place is not going to be taken lightly. If you were some agenda driven analyst covering GE and you angered Neutron Jack, you wish you could get away with just cleat marks on your neck. Mary
