Jim - RE: "They were about what I expected. More important though was Anands sudden use of all the boring SPEC scores. A strong hint at what Intels going to try to snow everyone with concerning the P4.
Although Anands review was not even close to the quality of Toms, it was far more telling in another way. Seems he knows what benchs Intel will feature with the P4. And AMD needs to get off their duff and make it easier for developers to optimize the Athlon compilers."

I think Anand is just trying to expand his benchmarking suite. I'm glad he's using SPEC. It showed the Athlon system was lagging the PIII because of a lack of memory bandwidth and Via's chiset. Even if the P4 blows away the Athlon in SPECfp it still has to prove itself in the other benchmarks.

He went into a LOT of detail about SPEC. But I bet he only does it in the future with something completely new, like Mustang and P4, and not with MHz increases.

One thing I would like to see is a benchmark like 3DMax where JUST the FPU is tested. Yeah, because the Athlon does really well on it, but also because he doesn't have any tests like it anywhere else. I'd also like to see SPECint. AMD doesn't have the guts to submit those scores and I'd like to see them...

I'm extremely surprised the thread is so quiet about DDR. It's like lots of inflated expectations got popped.
