I think Anand is just trying to expand his benchmarking suite. I'm glad he's using SPEC.

I disagree. I would prefer more real application tests. I think I prefer Tom's suite. I would like someone to report some database results of any kind and some blended Photoshop scores. Also, maybe some Autocad scores.

Tom has one encoding test. I would like to see more of those, and some compression / decompression tests. For example, WinRar compression at highest compression settings challenges the CPU greatly.

The last think I care about is the test of how well either side is able to optimize the compiler for a synthetic benchmark. It has very little to do with how the system will perform.
