DoCoMo in Talks Over Stake in AT&T Wireless Unit, FT Reports
By Nick Nabarro

Tokyo, Oct. 30 (Bloomberg) -- NTT DoCoMo Inc., Japan's No. 1 cellular phone company, is in talks with AT&T Corp. over taking a minority stake in the biggest U.S. phone and cable-television company's AT&T Wireless Services, the Financial Times said in its Web site, citing an unidentified person close to the matter.

DoCoMo is thought to be considering taking a stake of as much as 20 percent in the AT&T cellular operation, at a cost of as much as $10 billion, the FT said.

``It's rumor and speculation and I can't say anything about it,'' AT&T spokesman Ken Woo told Bloomberg News, when asked about the FT's report.

DoCoMo is keen to make its cellular phone technology the U.S. standard. Chief Executive Keiji Tachikawa has said VoiceStream Wireless Corp. is the best potential U.S. partner because it offers national reach with a technology compatible with DoCoMo's.
