I do wonder about the health of AMDs .13 process (as Saturn V pointed out). Though there is a benefit to not debugging new design and process at the same time, there is extra cost in terms of using extra resources in taping out with two processes.

I am not sure your case about P4 and Itanium prove the point. Remember, Itanium and P4 taped out last year and they came out when .18 wasn't very stable. (would have been more unstable, if it had come out 6 months earlier, as per original schedule).
BTW, Tualatin is on .13 and comes out at the same time as Sledgehammer.
