One of the neat things about Abit (the motherboard company) is that they've added extra hardware drivers to the memory bus on some of their better boards. Nobody else (that I know of) does this. For instance, the systems we have at work that use the Abit KA7 support up to 4 unregistered DIMMs of up to 512 meg each on a single channel. That's 2 gig on a one channel Athlon motherboard and we have one set up that way and it works great.

And the memory was cheap and unbuffered memory is faster than registered memory. It's a win - win. It was a little hard to find 512 meg unbuffered DIMMs, our VAR got them from Apacer.

I wonder if Abit will do the same thing for their DDR boards?
