Dave: It is my understanding that this question of separation of church and state vis-v-vis school vouchers will be decided in the courts. I am not a judge. I do not know what the ultimate outcome will be. In any event, the issue of school vouchers wanes more and more each day. Voucher votes in Michigan and California are expected to lose. The NEA is against vouchers for obvious reasons. Also, many Republicans in the suburbs are also opposed to vouchers. Why? Because, in many cases, these people elected to pay more to live in a community with good schools. They do not want to open up their good school districts to people who have not paid the "education premium" in housing costs.

Vouchers are a typical Republican tap-dance response to a greater problem: How to improve public schools, especially inner-city public schools. It's going to take time and money; lots of both.
