That's the problem with the Bush/Cheney BIG OIL ticket. They believe that keeping America dependent on oil is the only way. Of course, they get to line their pockets and pockets of their rich oil buddies at the same time. It would take 7 years to get the oil flowing from the proposed Alaska wildlife area. If we focused on alternative technologies like Gore proposes, we will have hundreds of thousands of ZEV (zero emission vehicles) on the road by that time. The higher oil prices ARE helping the advancement of fuel cell technologies. Just look at the fuel cell stocks and the money flowing into them these days. Fuel cell powered automobiles are right around the corner. Even William Clay Ford Jr., the President of Ford has recently said that fuel cells will cause the demise of the internal combustion engine. Some other quotes for you: "I believe that we are living through the last days of the traditional oil company." - Chairman and CEO of Texaco Putor Bijur "World entering last days of age of oil....Demand for clean energy will outpace overall demand..Embrace the future and recognize the growing demand for wide array of fuels, or ignore reality and slowly-but surely-be left behind." - Arco Chairman and CEO Mike Bowlin "The fuel cell stack if finally at the point where it has adequate power density and adequate performance to really make an all-out performance car...Fuel cells offer between a factor of two to three improvement in overall fuel economy." - General Motors Executive Director Byron McCormik Thanks for bringing this important issue to light. It is easy to see that Gore is right on the money with his vision for America's energy. Bush/Cheney are blinded by their own history of greed in dealing with oil.
